When the hag was gone, Jadis stood up, remarking, “I must consult the old maps.” Then as an afterthought she looked down at the statue of Mister Ferret which was still standing there on the floor before her throne. “Iron Boot, get rid of that thing. Stick it in the corner somewhere.”

“Yes My Queen,” the Dwarf answered.

“No wait,” Jadis then said as she thought for a moment. “Take it up to the high tower and toss it over the railing. Count how long it takes to hit the ground.”

“Yes, my lady,” Iron Boot said with a sigh.
